The Five Stages of a Steam Sale

Steam, Valve’s online video game marketplace and social networking site, kicked off the Steam Summer Sale yesterday and will run until June 21. This is it — everything that we have been waiting for (since the winter sale). It’s time to drain our wallets and line our profiles with awesome, digital games. If this happens to be your first Steam Summer Sale, which is incredibly exciting for you, here are the five stages that you will experience as you participate in this awesome event:

1. Excitement

Of course you’re excited! Incredibly cheap video games, amazing sales and a great way to buy tons of video games. Who wouldn’t be happy about that? This stage definitely lasts the entire week of the sale and will be there for every sale after this one.

2. Confusion

There are some parts of the Steam sales that can be confusing such as the Monster Game and the cards-to-badges-to-jewels process, but don’t worry. As long as you read the FAQ on Steam and follow the guidelines you will be fine. The good news about this part of the event is it’s only for fun and you don’t have to take part in it to get the most out of the Steam sale.

3. Impatience

The best way to get a good deal in the sale is to wait for that specific game you want to go into the Flash Sale or Daily Deal. This process can be frustrating, however, because you never know when that will happen. Just be patient and save those hard-earned dollars! Don’t spend money on your game right away. You can get games anywhere from 50-80 percent off if you wait, so it will definitely be worth the patience.

4. Sadness

If only every week on Steam could be like this. Although there are sales on games all the time, there are only specific times throughout the year when these massive savings can be found on the online market. You will be sad that you will have to go back to either saving your money for the sales or paying full price for your video games. Don’t worry, though, the sales will be back before you know it and you will be able to spend even more money on video games.

5. Contentment

Once the week is over you will be able to look at all the games that you were able to purchase and feel very pleased with yourself. You can revel in the fact that you didn’t pay full price for a single video game and now you can spend the next three months of summer break indoors playing brand new games.

Enjoy the Steam Summer Sale, everyone!
