We at Fangirl like to make your life a bit easier, and we like to read stuff, too. So, we’re starting a weekly aggregation of the top links from our site and other places around the Web to help readers keep up with all their favorite fandoms. Here are Fangirl‘s Links of the Week for Oct. 26 through Nov. 1.
From Fangirl
Fangirl contributor Claire Norrell reviewed The Beauty #1, an under-the-radar comic and “well paced cop drama with a subtle message” about the importance of beauty in society.
We spent about 40 hours with Halo 5: Guardians as a staff and came away impressed with multiplayer but underwhelmed with its campaign mode. Read why it got a 7.5/10 here.
Leigh Lahav gave us all the lol’z earlier this week, and entertainment editor Zach Van Epps made a great find with this video chronicling the stages of waiting for “That Movie.”
There are spoilers in McKayla Helm’s review, so be careful, but The Walking Dead‘s episode this past Sunday, “Thank You,” was absolutely great and — OH MY GOD GLENN WHAT NO NO NO.
Gaming editor George Ash spent the night on the floor of a Denver airport so he could check out IndieCade in Culver City, California. He had tons of content out of the trip. Check it all out here.
Around the Web
You’ve certainly heard about the South by Southwest panels on online harassment and GamerGate by now. Salon had a strong take on SXSW’s botching of the whole panel. The organizers then put together an “Online Harassment Summit” and assumed all the previously scheduled speakers would be in attendance. That, like this whole saga, was a bit hasty. Hopefully SXSW will get its act together, and soon.
It was all over Snapchat, the Twitters and lots of other Interweb places, but it’s worth revisiting: This year’s League of Legends world championship was a blast. Polygon has video of some of the play and a rundown of SK Telecom T1’s unprecedented victory.
Marvel’s Jessica Jones will be a must-watch for us. Here’s a look at Episode 1 via IGN.
Supergirl also came out, to mixed reviews. “The most privileged type of woman,” who already finds herself in love and rescued in some odd way, didn’t impress The Daily News‘s Kaitlyn Locke. The Guardian did a good job of summing up the stakes the show faces as well.
That’s all for now. Check in with us next week for more links and, if you’re lucky, a video short or two.
